Congratulations to year 9-10 team for winning the Allan Brewster Junior Basketball Tournament

Seven young basketball players aged 9-10 years, who'd never played together, joined forces to represent Sport Gulf Harbour at the Allan Brewster Junior Basketball Tournament in Papatoetoe on September 3rd.

Four games were scheduled and were played with relaxed rules.  The first game had our players cautiously getting the feel of the court and each other, the skill levels and communication.  Despite this they held possession during the last half of the game but in missing baskets, lost by one basket.  The next two games saw our guys gel with plenty of intercepts, a fast pace and great passing with a player under the basket to take the shot, gaining two wins.

The final game was played against the first team and a request for full rules from our coach was accepted. A very even first half made for an exciting game full of anticipation.  With a rev up at the last quarter the team decided to win and put everything into it to come out with a 23-15 score.

Our thanks to Mark Mandeno, coach Andrew and Manager Nikki Davidson for pulling this team together.

Absolutely fabulous Night with the Breakers

Luca, Jazmin and Kirk Penney
Our girls made us proud having a fantastic time out on court with Avondale and then the Breakers.

Here are some comments from parents:
Please pass on our thanks to all involved with giving the girls the opportunity to be a part of the "Breakers" Basketball experience!  What an AWESOME evening. The girls were still buzzing this morning. I've just been listening to Lisa give her grandmother a blow by blow description of everything about the night, from the hot chips to the irish dancers, cheer leaders, score board, chants, drums and of course the game. Thanks for all your organising and making it possible for all the girls to get there.

Hola!!!

Yes, it was a fantastic event. The kids ( and adults) had a ball.
What a great ambience.I was wo impressed, I loved the drums and the great
enthusiasm cheering for the Breakers. What a great opportunity for the kids
to be part of it.
Thank you so much for this memorable experience.
Thanks, Kim for your great effort and work ,giving the kids this
opportunity to play basketball and to have fun! Thanks, Megan and Jay for
your great combined effort with the Tigers.

Gracias y hasta la vista!

Our first SGH College basketball team play their first game together

Sport Gulf Harbour's first College team have just had a great game against some rather cute, large year 13 boys in the College league.  6 Old Gulf Harbour-ites who are now at various colleges and intermediates have got together for some fun and exercise on a Friday night down at the Leisure Centre.  We managed to score 9 goals with Ben bringing in the most, Jessie scoring a quick one from an intercept and both Rosalie and Stephanie shooting from afar with success.  Luke our youngest player made a superb goal too. The team played brilliantly together and Emma and Anita gave them a run for their money down the defence line.  An awesome first game!
